  • Pink eye, or conjunctivitis, is the inflammation of the conjunctiva, the clear tissue inside the eyelid and outer eye coating. It can occur in one or both eyes and cause redness. A stye is a painful, red bump that develops on or inside the eyelid, usually near the edge of the eyelashes.

While pink eyes and styes share symptoms like redness, sensitivity to light, and eyelid crusting, their causes differ. Styes originate from an infection within the oil glands on the eyelid. Conversely, pink eye, also known as conjunctivitis, is triggered by viruses, bacteria, allergens, or other factors unrelated to stye causation.

Eye doctors may suggest the use of eye drops or ointment to reduce the inflammation and to eradicate the infection while treating pink eye. On the other hand, for a stye, warm compresses and antibiotics may be given to reduce the swelling and cure the infection. The first thing to do is to call the doctor if you are experiencing either of the two conditions so that you can get the treatment and relief of the symptoms.
